Erica Segre specialises in nineteenth-century Latin-American literature and thought, and nineteenth- and
twentieth-century visual culture (photography, art and film). She has lectured and published extensively in these areas.
Her book
Intersected Identities: Strategies of Visualisation in Nineteenth- and Twentieth-Century Mexican Culture was
published in 2007 (New York and Oxford: Berghahn Books). She is now working on the following projects: 'Contested Canons:
Tradition and Modernity in Literary Discourse and Culture in Nineteenth-Century Mexico, (1826-1893)', 'Tropes of Childhood in
the Mexican Avant-garde and Visual Culture' and 'The Composite Gaze: Disguise, Play and Reflexivity in the Unknown Work of
Manuel Álvarez Bravo'.
