Geoffrey Kantaris is the Director of the Centre of Latin American Studies, a multi-disciplinary area studies centre in the University, and the Cultural Studies editor of the Bulletin of Latin American Research. His own research currently focuses on contemporary urban cinema from Latin America, particularly Argentine, Colombian and Mexican cinema. Related interests include questions of modernity, postmodernity and transnational processes in Latin American culture. He has published numerous articles and book chapters in these areas, and has a fothcoming book provisionally entitled Latin American Cinema: The Urban Paradigm. Previous research interests include women’s writing and dictatorship, on which he published the monograph The Subversive Psyche: Contemporary Women's Narrative from Argentina and Uruguay (Oxford: UP, 1996).
