Most pedagogical grammars use and explain the basic grammatical terms. Most of the terms here are also defined in larger dictionaries. The most recent 'official' grammar of Spanish, that of the Real Academia Española, is Emilio Alarcos Llorach, Gramática de la lengua española (Madrid: Espasa-Calpe, 1994), which gives very clear definitions and explanations. A widely used university text in Spain, with more discussion, is Samuel Gili Gaya, Curso superior de sintaxis española (various editions). Those who wish to explore linguistics further might look at David Crystal, Cambridge Encyclopaedia of Language (or even consider following one of the many linguistics options on offer in this Faculty!).
