Teaching and Supervision Arrangements

Language classes

The Department issues lists at the beginning of the year specifying the language groups to which undergraduates have been assigned. Queries about these lists should be addressed in the first instance to the Departmental Secretary. Spanish through Audiovisual Media (Part IB) is the responsibility of the Spanish Senior Language Teaching Officer, Dr Angeles Carreres, while the Portuguese Leitor/a and Affiliated Lecturer, is in charge of the Portuguese through Audiovisual Media.

Supervision

Portuguese: Supervisions are formally responsibility of colleges, but in practice the Department organises supervisions for all scheduled papers and language papers centrally. A meeting takes place with the different groups on the morning of the Wednesday before Teaching Term starts in Michaelmas. Information on these meetings (including a separate one with Pg. 3 students) is circulated to DoSs and published MML beginning of term events.

Spanish: Supervisions are formally responsibility of colleges, but in practice the Department organises supervisions for all scheduled papers and most language papers centrally. The exceptions are the PIA(B)/PIB(A) Language with Oral Component supervisions and the PII Essay supervisions which are arranged by colleges (DoSs can refer to a list of available Spanish supervisors supplied by the Department). Spanish students are contacted directly, or via their DoSs, about supervision arrangements meetings organised by the Department and held on the Tuesday or Wednesday before Teaching Term starts in Michaelmas. Spanish ab initio students have their supervision arrangements meeting at 2 pm on the first Thursday of Michaelmas Teaching Term. The Faculty Office compiles a list of MML beginning of the year supervision meetings and other relevant events. The list can be accessed from the MML Faculty's homepage shortly before term starts and during the first few weeks of term.
