Portuguese Oral C

Please refer to the Faculty webpage on the Part II Orals.

The Oral examination is compulsory for all MML students, except for those qualified for exemption. The Oral relevant to the Part II Tripos takes place just before the Michaelmas term of the final year. The reason for this timing is that it allows candidates to take full advantage of the fluency that they have acquired during their Year Abroad, before the effect wears off.

Candidates take this examination in one language only, which MUST be the same language as AT LEAST ONE of their Part II language papers. They indicate their choice of language in advance to their College, before leaving for their Year Abroad. Four themes or topics* are prescribed for the examination, intended to relate in a general way to the range of Portuguese scheduled papers available in Part II.

For information on the topics for the exam, guidelines to examiners, etc, please see the relevant MML Faculty page here.

Important notice from the MML Faculty Board:

*The Faculty Board of Modern and Medieval Languages give notice that from Tripos 2006 onwards, candidates for the Part II oral examinations will be permitted to choose an oral topic of their own, if they do not wish to choose from one of the four published topics. Candidates will NOT be required to submit the topic in advance of the examination. The Board are satisfied that no student's preparation for the examination will be adversely affected.
