Options for Spanish in Part II for the next academic year

PLEASE NOTE: The scheduled papers and the dissertation(s) may all relate to one language area or may be spread over different
    language areas.  It is ALWAYS advisable to take at least one scheduled paper with components in the same
    language as your language papers because the books that you read will feed into your language work, helping your
    fluency in reading and writing, and extending your vocabulary.

  • Sp 7: Spanish Literature, Thought, and History from 1492 to 1700
  • Sp 9: Spanish Literature, Thought, and History after 1820
  • Sp 11: *The Hispanic Languages
  • Sp 12: Latin-American Culture
  • Sp 13: Contemporary Latin-American Culture. 
  • Sp 14: Spanish Literature, Life, and History before 1492
You may also choose:
  • Paper Sp 10: * Introduction to Catalan Language and Culture.
  • Paper Pg 3: * Introduction to the Language and Literature of Portugal, Brazil and Portuguese-speaking Africa. (Please note that Candidates who took Option A (ab initio) in Spanish and who wish to take Pg 3 must also take a Spanish scheduled paper. Students should also note that paper Pg 3 will not be available to candidates who have previously offered Portuguese as one of their languages in Part IA or have a Certificate or Diploma from the Faculty of Modern and Medieval Languages in that language.
  • *If you took any of these papers in Part IB, you may not take a written examination in it again in Part II.

    Please note that no candidate may offer more than one of Papers Du. 5, Gr. 3, Pg. 3, Sp. 10, or Uk. 1 in any one year, and that if you took Pg3 in Part IB you will not be able to take it again in Part II. 

    In addition there are Spanish components in Comparative papers:

    • CS 1: *The Romance Languages
    • CS 5: †The Body
    • CS 6: †Modern European Film

    * If you took this paper in Part IB you may not take a written examination in it again in Part II.

    † No candidate may offer more than one paper from Papers CS 4, 5, or 6.
