Paper PG C1

Translation from and into Portuguese

All candidates for Part II must offer one 'Composition and Translation' paper, in one of the languages corresponding to the Part II scheduled papers. Suppose that you spend your Year Abroad in Portugal or Latin America and choose to do the Portuguese 'Composition and Translation'.

Classes are weekly, alternating into/from Portuguese.

Your examination will consist of two passages, one in English, about 300 words long, to be translated into Portuguese, and the other, in Portuguese, about 450 words long, to be translated into English. Look up the bound volumes of MML Tripos papers in the Faculty Library in order to get an idea of the kind of style and register of the passages set for this test. The Part II Portuguese Composition and Translation classes are designed to prepare you for it.
