Introduction to Portuguese 2: Translation from Portuguese and Oral A

Teaching for the translation element of this paper takes the form of two language classes per week, which take you through the major points of the grammar and syntax of Portuguese and supervisions (in Part IA there may be no distinction between Use of Portuguese and Translation classes). In the examination, you will have to translate two contrasting passages into English. In addition as part of the teaching of paper PG A3, from Lent Term you will have fortnightly Translation Classes.

Portuguese Oral A

To prepare for the oral, you will have weekly oral supervisions with a native speaker. All Portuguese supervisions are centrally organised by the Department, with the approval of the relevant college. The examination consists of:

• The reading aloud of a passage taken from a text chosen by the examiners
• A conversation based on the subject of the text.

You will receive a copy of the text fifteen minutes before the start of the exam.
