Cambridge Ukrainian Studies, an initiative of the Department of Slavonic Studies, was launched in 2008 to promote and contribute to the study of Ukraine in the United Kingdom and beyond. It is committed to deepening public understanding of Ukraine and to advancing fresh, innovative approaches to research on the largest country within Europe, a critical crossroads between 'East' and 'West' with a rich historical, linguistic, and cultural inheritance. Cambridge Ukrainian Studies offers two scheduled papers to all undergraduate students in the Faculty of Modern and Medieval Languages: Uk1, 'An Introduction to the Language, Literature, and Culture of Ukraine and Uk2, 'Studies in Twentieth-Century Ukrainian Literature and Film' . Cambridge Ukrainian Studies offers free open courses in Elementary and Intermediate Ukrainian to all members of the University and one-day workshops in Ukrainian history and society to qualified postgraduates throughout Great Britain.

Cambridge Ukrainian Studies hosts an array of public events throughout the academic year, including the Annual Cambridge Festival of Ukrainian Film and the Annual Stasiuk Lecture in Contemporary Ukrainian Studies. It also publishes a regular audio and video podcast series as well as a number of other internet resources to help increase public knowledge about Ukrainian culture and society.
