August 2011

On 1 August 2011, the Department of Linguistics and the Research Centre for English and Applied Linguistics merged to form the new Department of Theoretical and Applied Linguistics. An open letter regarding the merger is available for download here.

July 2011

Congratulations to George Walkden, PhD Student in the Department of Linguistics, on being joint winner of this year's Wallenberg Prize for Scandinavian Studies.

Congratulations to Dr David Willis, who has been awarded a one-year Mid-Careet Fellowship by the British Academy for his work on syntactic variation and change in Welsh. The fellowship will be used to conduct fieldwork on dialect maintenance, revitalisation and language contact in the syntax of southern Welsh dialects, as part of ongoing collaboration with Professor Maggie Tallerman and
