IT Support Services runs a streaming media server dedicated to distributing appropriately licensed materials soley for use in teaching within the Faculty. For legal reasons, the materials to which we don't hold copyright cannot be accessed from outside of the Cam domain and are subject to MML's own password-protected access, not Raven authentication. Further, we are legally required to obtain a signed Statement of Copyright Compliance from staff in advance of any materials being hosted on Faculty servers. Materials to which the Faculty holds copyright are not subject to these restrictions.

STATEMENT OF COPYRIGHT COMPLIANCE

In order to comply with the University's ERA/ERA Plus licences on copyright compliance and s. 35(1) of the Copyright, Designs and Patents Act 1988 as amended we ask our users who are authorised to upload teaching materials on our servers to sign the following terms and conditions BEFORE we are able to host any digital film or sound clips:

  • I confirm that the materials I am submitting are either out of copyright, or have been recorded from a television broadcast (NOT taken from a commercial DVD) and that in the case of the latter, I must supply signed confirmation of the title, date, time and channel that the broadcast was taken from. I understand that whilst materials from commercial DVDs may be legally played in the classroom they cannot be made available online.
  • I agree that the materials will be placed in a restricted access area of the server that can only be accessed via the Cam domain and that are subject to MML password restriction - not Raven authentication. We ask that you talk to us to clarify exactly what this means.
  • I confirm that the materials will only be made available to staff and students of the Faculty as part of formal teaching and that they will not be used for any commerical purposes.
