FAQs
Contacting IT Support Services
Please also refer to our generic FAQ pages for general information on PWF passwords and print credit.
What's the best way of contacting IT Support Services?
Our contact details are on our support pages. If at all possible, email is best as we check our mail wherever we are in the building.
Using the CALL
I've got a problem using one of the machines in the CALL Facility. How do I get help?
Each of the computers has a clearly displayed number (e.g. MMLCALLPC01 - MML, Graduate CALL, PC number 01). If you can quote this number in any fault report to the Help Desk it will make it much easier to diagnose. If at all possible you should follow the format of "I'm logged in as [your userid] to [machine no] and I'm experiencing the following [brief description of problem]" we'll be able to help you much more swiftly. You should also try to log into a different computer to make sure it's the machine and not a problem with your profile; if it turns out to be the latter you should contact the Computing Service Help Desk and they should be able to reset your profile for you.
I'd really like to be able to get into the CALL Facility outside hours or outside term, how can I do this?
Authorised students can request to have their University Cards programmed accordingly by the Faculty Office.
Can I access the Faculty's teaching programs from outside of the CALL Facility?
The Web-based applications can be accessed from anywhere. Either manually make a note of the url yourself, or navigate to your chosen programme from the online version of the CALL Interface. A minority of applications are available for Windows only and are listed as such in the CALL Interface. Registered MML users can access these applications from any other PWF Windows computer - but bear in mind you will also need a set of headphones!
I've heard the CALL Facility can be booked for teaching, how does that work?
The main room of the CALL Facility can be booked for teaching. The outer part of the CALL nearer the entrance is always available for private use/study.
Can I book a CALL booth to watch a DVD or video?
Ordinarily, the CALL booths aren't bookable and are used on a first-come-first-served basis. The ONLY exception to this is Call Booth 4 (the largest) that is, occasionally, booked for supervisions.
