Dr Sanson specializes in 16th-century culture and literature with a particular
interest in the 'Questione della lingua', conduct literature, and women and gender.
She is the author of
Donne, precettistica e lingua nell'Italia del Cinquecento: un
contributo alla storia del pensiero linguistico (Florence: Accademia della Crusca,
2007) and
Women, Language and Grammar: Italy 1500-1900 (Oxford and
London: Oxford University Press for the British Academy, 2011). Among her other
research interests are: history of the Italian language; history of linguistic thought;
women's history from the Middle Ages to the present; 18th- and 19th-century Italian
culture and literature (in particular with reference to women and gender); translation.
Dr Sanson is the recipient of a Philip Leverhulme Prize (2009) and of an Isaac Newton Trust grant (2012).
