Dr Helena Sanson wins Leverhulme prize
Dr Helena Sanson has been awarded one of the prestigious Philip Leverhulme Prizes in recognition of her research achievements. The Prize is awarded to 'outstanding young research scholars [...] who have made and are continuing to make original and significant contributions to knowledge'. The award was offered for the 'Modern European Languages and Literature' category and it provides �70,000 to enhance and promote the prize-holder's future research. Dr Sanson's interdisciplinary research combines the history of linguistic thought and women's history in Italy. Her first monograph, Donne, precettistica e lingua nell'Italia del Cinquecento. Un contributo alla storia del pensiero linguistico was published with the Accademia della Crusca in Florence in 2007. Her new monograph, Women, Language and Grammar: Italy 1500-1900 is forthcoming with Oxford University Press for the British Academy.
