CHORUS
EXPERIMENTS IN VOICE, MOVEMENT, PERSON
Monday 9th July 2012, 10am - 8.30pm
Robinson College Chapel and the Judith E. Wilson Studio

The event planned for July 9th is the first formal outcome of a series of collaborative sessions involving performers from Cambridge and artists from the Central Saint Martins College of Arts and Design.
In taking the Chorus as a central theme, we shall be considering how, in performance, the individual participant relates to the group, and examining the negotiations in space and time that occur when established parameters of self-presentation are called into question. What does space look like if we abandon the preconceptions that are carried in the grammar of our pronouns 'I', 'You', 'We', They'? Does 'performance' invite us to explore and re-configure such positions and discover new possibilities? What is involved in speaking words that an audience has come not merely to approve but also to spend time over, actively absorbing these words for future performance?
The form of the day's events will invite experimentation. Some sessions will address the broadly academic issues that are raised in any consideration of the Chorus. Other sessions will offer work in progress, along with actual performances and improvisation - at times combining such projects with more familiar modes of exposition.
In the two open forums we shall point the way to further experimentation as well as encourage the continuing development of performances displayed in the present series of contributions. The organisers would especially welcome suggestions beforehand of topics or aspects of performance, which have not been touched upon in the advertised programme, or indications of areas that participants might themselves be concerned to explore. Such suggestions or questions can be sent to:
- Michael Hrebeniak mh433@cam.ac.uk.
- Vladimir Mirodan v.mirodan@csm.arts.ac.uk.
- Jeremy Hardingham jh580@cam.ac.uk.
- Robin Kirkpatrick rk22@cam.ac.uk.
