RESEARCH ASSOCIATE: GRAMMAR OF MEDIEVAL GREEK
Further particulars

The project is housed in the Faculty of Modern and Medieval Languages, where the two Research Associates work. The project office contains a substantial collection of primary and secondary materials, reference works, and electronic resources. The primary source materials consist of two main types: literary texts and non-literary documents. The literary texts are read in the best available critical editions, with recourse to microfilms or PDFs of manuscripts, when it is necessary to verify a reading. The non-literary materials are usually studied in diplomatic editions. Much of the work is done using computers and on-line resources, for which training will be given as necessary. The Research Associates read the primary sources with a view to identifying specific linguistic phenomena, and they then input the relevant extracts into an electronic database (FileMaker Pro). Most of the data on phonology has already been collected. The present phase of work is concerned with the collection of morphological data. Once the material has been assembled, it is analysed and written up in a first draft, for discussion and further elaboration. This process involves collaborative working among various members of the team. In the autumn of 2007 the RAs will begin the collection of syntactic data (the third phase of the project). At the same time, the existing drafts on phonology and morphology will continue to be revised and expanded as new data are added.

The RA is expected to work in the region of 37 to 40 hours a week. From time to time presentations related to the project are given to seminars or conferences.

Interviews will be held in Cambridge in the second half of June. Short-listed candidates will be asked to give a short presentation on a topic relevant to the project.

The salary scale applicable to this post from 1 August 2007 will be £25,134 ? £32,796.
