Seeking advice and dealing with problems
If any problem arises with supervision, or with any other aspect of the course, you should contact any of the following as soon as possible:- the Director of the MPhil in European Literature, Dr Ian James
- the Director of the MPhil in Theoretical and Applied Linguistics, Dr John Williams
- the Director of the MPhil in Russian Studies, Dr Susan Larsen
- the Director of the MPhil in European Literature, Prof Emma Wilson
- your Supervisor
- your Head of Department or your Department's designated graduate officer
- the Secretary of the Degree Committee, Dr David Willis
- the Faculty's Graduate Students' Representative (see the noticeboard in the Graduate Centre)
- the Secretary of the Board of Graduate Studies, Dr Kate Maxwell
You will also have been assigned a College Tutor. It is sometimes difficult to work out exactly when you should consult the latter, and when you should talk to your Supervisor or someone else in the Faculty instead. Generally speaking, your College Tutor should be your first port of call about financial matters, accommodation, and of course College matters. Personal problems can be discussed, if you wish, with either your Tutor, or your Supervisor, or indeed both. If in doubt, ask. Sometimes the two roles overlap. Deferment of submission of an MPhil essay on personal grounds, such as ill-health, must be supported by your College Tutor.
