Faculty Information
The Raised Faculty Building (RFB)
The Faculty of Modern and Medieval Languages is housed in the Raised Faculty Building (RFB) on the Sidgwick Site. The central Faculty Office, and all the Departmental Offices can be found in the RFB, which makes the building the administrative centre for students and staff alike.

Built as part of the University's development of the former Caius' Sports Ground in the 1950s and 60s the RFB was a revolutionary contemporary project.
The original Sidgwick Site design by Casson and Conder in 1952 envisaged this part of the University as providing an informal, open environment and Casson's sketches illustrate a visionary space typical of the forward-looking ethos of the period. In contrast to many other University buildings, students working in the RFB still have access to light open spaces in which to work or enjoy the sunshine, or alternatively, somewhere dry to park bicycles in the rain.

The RFB underwent a programme of extensive refurbishment in 1999-2000 with further work taking place in 2006. New students will find the building equipped with modern teaching and seminar rooms, a Graduate Centre, our Computer-Assisted Language Learning Facility and a Media Suite.
