Teresa Parodi specialises in language acquisition: monolingual and bilingual first language acquisition, second language acquisition by children and adults. She carries out experimental as well as corpus-based research, which focusses on the acquisition of morphosyntax, mainly in Romance, Germanic and Greek. She published a book on the acquisition of functional categories in German by bilingual German-French children and adult second language learners (Parodi 1998,
Der Erwerb funktionaler Kategorien im Deutschen). She has completed a BA-funded project on L1 acquisition of Spanish (with T. Alexopoulou and E. Vilar-Beltrán). She was involved in the English Profile Programme, which studies linguistic features related to proficiency levels in the Common European Framework of Reference, and her current work includes the research project L1 Acquisition of Cypriot Greek Pronominal Clitics
(CYCLIA), which investigates the acquisition and development of pronominal object clitics by young Greek Cypriot children. She is a member of the Cambridge Bilingualism Network, which aims at bridging the gap between research on bilingualism and practitioners (parents of bilingual children, teachers).
