Application schedule

Potential applicants for postgraduate study should note the following schedules (which assumes registration starting in October which is the only possibility for the MPhil; PhD registration most commonly starts in October, but can start at other times).

Those (particularly overseas students) applying for funding schemes other than AHRC should check the deadlines for those schemes - see information supplied by the Board of Graduate Studies and make sure they apply for a place on the course in good time.

For students applying for the MPhil:

Graduate Application, accompanied by a sample of writing, (See How to Apply) to be received by Board of Graduate Studies

11 January 2013 for AHRC applicants; otherwise 31 May, but the course may be closed before this date if it becomes full. Early application is advised.

Students applying for PhD

For Cambridge MPhil students wishing to continue to PhD - preliminary discussion with supervisor

Preferably not later than Christmas of MPhil year

Application for Continuation as Graduate Student (for current Cambridge MPhil students) to Board of Graduate Studies

You are advised to apply before 31 March to allow time to process the application if you wish to commence the course in October. Otherwise, 31 May, but the course may be closed before this date if it becomes full.

Non-Cambridge students should contact a potential supervisor before applying. Graduate Application, accompanied by a research proposal (500-1,000 words) to Board of Graduate Studies

No specific deadline - but you are advised to apply before 31 March if you wish to commence the course in October. Otherwise, 31 May, but the course may be closed before this date if it becomes full.
