Using Video Plus: Exercise Types
Each unit contains ten exercises, the same ten for each clip. In every case, you should start on the exercises after studying the whole clip on the first page of each unit, using the subtitles and glossary to help you when necessary.
Click on the video play buttons to see a picture of each exercise.
Grobverstehen
The first exercise is designed to test your general comprehension. You are asked to identify some key statements which sum up some of the key points arising from the clip.
Einfache Fakten
This is a gap-fill test where you are asked to answer factual questions about the clip using words and phrases taken from it.
Multiple Choice
Here your understanding of the clip is tested through your understanding of statements arising from points in it: you have to select the correct option from each set of three statements.
Richtig oder falsch?
A list of statements is given, and in each case you work out whether the statement is true or false.
Anfang und Ende
Select appropriate endings for the given sentences from the options supplied in a selection box.
Vermischte Reihenfolge
Put back together mixed-up segments of a video extract. This is a video-based version of the old text exercise where you turn a jumbled selection of phrase and clauses back into a coherent paragraph.
Synonyme
Type in words from the clip synonymous with (meaning the same as) those listed.
Antonyme
Type in words from the clip antonymous with (meaning the opposite of) those listed.
Lückentext
This is a simple transcription/spelling exercise where you listen to the clip and type in missing words and phrases.
Wörter und Bilder
This exercise is different in that it uses the pictures from the video without any reference to the sound. Silent extracts from the clip are used as illustrations for a gap-filling test which involves re-formulating words and phrases into their correct forms.
