Strategies:

Read through the text carefully. The first step is to read around the underlined phrases and make sure you understand the context, that is to say, for example, to know which noun a pronoun in the phrase relates to, what or who the subject of the phrase is, and so on. Next, try to explain the phrase by using some synonymous vocabulary. Do this as far as you are able to, but don‘t worry if you use some words from the original phrase. The third step to reformulation is syntactical manipulation, for example, by putting your answer in the passive voice if the original is in the active, and vice versa.
