Ge6
Questions
Unfortunately, Ge6 is a brand new paper, so there are not very many questions that I can give as examples.
The 2006 exam had the following question:
'In Weimar cinema, the city is bound up with the thrills and threats of technology, sexuality and economic power.' Discuss with reference to TWO OR MORE of the following: (i) Asphalt; (ii) Berlin - Die Sinfonie der Großstadt; (iii) Metropolis
As homework, I was set the following question on Weimar Film:
'Weimar film explores the tensions between the value of the image as document and the power of the image to play on human fantasy.' Discuss with reference to the prescribed films for this topic.
Before Ge6, there was Paper Ge10, which is similar to Ge6. Two questions from the 2005 exam, which were about Weimar Film, are below:
'The Weimar period essentially politicised culture, even where politics were not the prime subject.' Discuss with reference to TWO OR MORE examples of writing, film, OR visual art.
'In Weimar cinema, the exotic or escapist elements are always counterbalanced by a sense of threat.' Discuss with reference to TWO OR MORE films.
Another two questions, which are also taken from Paper Ge10, are below. These questions are from the 2004 exam.
'The culture of the Weimar Republic is divided between utopian and nihilistic impulses.' Discuss with reference to TWO OR MORE examples of writing, film, or visual art.
'In Weimar cinema, political interests are always subservient to the appeal of spectacle.' Discuss with reference to TWO OR MORE films.
